The Government of Rajasthan decided to constitute a new department for focused all round development and soco-economic and educational upliftment of the minorities of the state, the six notified minority communities being Muslim, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Buddhists and Parsis. Therefore, in 2009 the State Government created the Department for Minorities, on lines of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, which was dedicated to the formulation of overall policy and planning, co-ordination , evaluation and review of the regulatory framework and development programmes for the benefit of the minority community. On 19 Dec.2009 the Department of Minority Affairs formally came into existence.
The Department is headed by the Hon'ble Minister for Minority Affairs and Waqf.
